When people think about flower food, they often focus on what is inside the sachet. At Chrysal, we believe the packaging deserves just as much attention.

Over the past few years, sustainability has become an increasingly important topic throughout the floriculture supply chain. Growers, bouquet makers, retailers and consumers are all looking for ways to reduce waste and make more responsible choices without compromising quality. Packaging plays a crucial role in this transition.

That is why Chrysal has invested heavily in developing more sustainable sachet solutions that combine performance, convenience and recyclability.

A Journey Towards More Circular Packaging

Our journey started several years ago with a clear ambition: to reduce the environmental impact of our sachet portfolio while maintaining the quality standards that customers expect from Chrysal.

Through extensive research, testing and close collaboration with suppliers and customers, we have successfully transitioned a significant share of our sachet assortment from traditional non-recyclable materials to recyclable and alternative sustainable solutions. Today, approximately 96% of our sachet portfolio is recyclable or in transition towards recyclable solutions. This includes recyclable plastic films, paper-based alternatives and recyclable liquid sachets.

This achievement is an important milestone, but we continue to innovate. New developments, including advanced paper materials and packaging containing post-consumer recycled content, are helping us move even closer to a circular packaging future.

The World's First Recyclable Liquid Flower Food Sachet

One of the innovations I am particularly proud of is our recyclable liquid flower food sachet.

For many years, flower food was primarily available in powder form. While highly effective, we saw opportunities to create a solution that would be even easier for consumers to use while also supporting our sustainability ambitions.

The result is a recyclable liquid flower food sachet that combines convenience, accurate dosing and high performance in a package designed for recycling.

The liquid formulation mixes easily in water, is odourless and provides all the nutrients flowers need for optimal development. Flowers and buds open beautifully, and consumers can enjoy their flowers significantly longer when flower food is used correctly.

More recently, we expanded the range further with the introduction of liquid sticks, offering even more flexibility for customers and consumers.

Why Flower Food Still Matters

While packaging innovation is important, the primary purpose remains unchanged: helping consumers enjoy their flowers for longer.

Research consistently shows that proper flower food improves vase life, supports flower opening and helps maintain freshness throughout the life of the bouquet. Accurate dosing is essential, which is why single-use sachets continue to be such an effective solution.

For florists and retailers, providing flower food is one of the simplest ways to increase customer satisfaction and reduce the likelihood of complaints about flower longevity.

Innovation Through Partnership

At Chrysal, innovation never happens in isolation.

The progress we have made in sustainable packaging is the result of close collaboration with suppliers, customers and our own technical teams. By listening carefully to market needs and continuously testing new materials and concepts, we can develop solutions that work in practice—not just in theory.

This approach has helped us bring meaningful innovations to market while maintaining the reliability and performance that the floral industry depends on.

Looking Ahead

The transition towards more sustainable packaging is an ongoing journey. As regulations evolve and customer expectations continue to rise, we remain committed to developing solutions that help reduce environmental impact while delivering the flower care performance that Chrysal is known for.

Whether through recyclable sachets, innovative liquid formats or future packaging technologies, our goal remains the same: helping flowers perform at their best while supporting a more sustainable future for the floral industry.

At Chrysal, we believe every small improvement matters. Together, these improvements can make a significant difference for our customers, consumers and the environment.
