PPWR: How Chrysal supports customers on their PPWR compliance journey

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is a European regulation that introduces harmonized requirements for in-scope packaging placed on the EU market. Its objective is to reduce packaging waste, improve circularity, increase recyclability, and ensure that packaging complies with defined sustainability and compliance requirements.
What is PPWR?
In addition to setting requirements for packaging itself, PPWR places increased emphasis on transparency and documentation. In-scope companies placing packaging on the market must be able to declare compliance through technical documentation and supporting evidence.
As the regulation is progressively implemented, one of the first key milestones took effect on 12 August 2026. From this date, packaging must be supported by appropriate technical documentation and an EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC). Companies must also be able to ensure compliance with the substance requirements set out in Article 5, including the limits for heavy metals in packaging.

PPWR creates a chain of information that extends throughout the value chain.
For packaged products marketed under the Chrysal brand, Chrysal acts as the manufacturer under PPWR. This means we are responsible for ensuring that the relevant Declarations of Conformity, technical documentation, and supporting evidence are available and maintained in a structured manner.
For products supplied under a customer's private label, Chrysal acts as a packaging supplier. In this role, we support our customers by providing packaging-related technical information and documentation that may be required for their own compliance, sustainability, or customer information processes.
In this scenario, Chrysal collects and manages packaging data from our suppliers, translates it into product-level documentation, and makes relevant information available to customers. This helps ensure that packaging compliance information can flow efficiently and consistently throughout the value chain.
How Chrysal supports customers
To support PPWR compliance and customer information requests, Chrysal has established a structured packaging compliance process that combines supplier information, centralized data management, and automated document generation.
Packaging compliance information is managed through our Product Information Management (PIM) system, where packaging data, supplier evidence, and compliance documentation are linked and maintained within a single centralized environment. This enables us to efficiently manage packaging information and generate customer-facing documentation in a consistent and scalable manner.
Rather than handling requests on an ad hoc basis, our approach creates a reliable and traceable information flow from packaging suppliers, through Chrysal, to customers. This allows us to efficiently support growing customer demand for packaging compliance information while ensuring consistency, transparency, and data integrity.
